GAME’s Oxford Street store still could close its doors.
on May 14th, 2012 at 7:27 pmAccording to The Telegraph the retail chain’s flagship store still could close its doors after the landlord, Lazari GP, won a court order last Friday which grants it the power to send in bailiffs and drill out the locks.
Apparently Lazari is still owed the sum of £100,000 in unpaid rent for the unit.
GAME Group administrator PwC has refused to pay the bill, arguing that it only became responsible for the store the day after the rent was due.
New owners GAME Retail Ltd claims it is not liable for the bill - although administrator PwC says that it no longer has a “economic interest”, placing responsibility purely at OpCapita’s feet.
I suspect this will be the first in many more stores closing down as time goes by.
It aint over yet.

Fuck’s sake.
I walked past there on a busy Saturday afternoon, the week after the Vita release I think it was, and the place was empty.
The Australian Game stores entered administration yesterday too.
It’s definitely not over and all of the ‘lucky’ staff members that weren’t thrown out on the street when Game discarded over 2000 of it’s loyal employees last month will have to go through all of the stress again.
Feel free to quote me on this after it happens: I predict that at least half of the remaining UK stores will be closed before the year’s out. The 150-ish that remain will be re-branded under a new name.
My wife is STILL waiting for the money that Game scammed her out of for 10 year’s service.
My heart goes out for all other employees that will inevitably be thrown out in the coming weeks/months. At least this lot will probably get redundancy & notice pay unless Opcapita can find a grey loophole to jump through in order to avoid paying it, like what Game group did.
