Remember when I told you about the Fez patch corrupting your save games?
Polytron’s website now declares the following news;
“We’re not going to patch the patch.
Why not? Because microsoft would charge us tens of thousands of dollars to re-certify the game.
And because as it turns out, the save file delete bug only happens to less than a percent of players. It’s a shitty numbers game to be playing for sure, but as a small independent, paying so much money for patches makes NO SENSE AT ALL. especially when you consider the alternative. Had FEZ been released on steam instead of XBLA, the game would have been fixed two weeks after release, at no cost to us. And if there was an issue with that patch, we could have fixed that right away too!
We believe the save file corruption issue mostly happened to players who had completed, or almost completed the game. If you hadn’t already seen most of what FEZ had to offer, your save file is probably safe. It doesn’t happen if you start a new game.
We believe the current patch is safe for an overwhelming majority of players.
The patch fixes almost everything that’s been wrong with the game since launch. The framerate issues, the loading, the skips, the death loops, everything! All that stuff is fixed! And right now, nobody can get to it since the patch was pulled. For 99% of people, it makes FEZ a better game.
To the less-than-1% who are getting screwed, we sincerely apologize. We know this hurts you the most, because you’re the ones who put the most times into the game. And this breaks our hearts. We hope you dont think back on your time spent in FEZ as a total waste.
Microsoft gave us a choice: either pay a ton of money to re-certify the game and issue a new patch (which for all we know could introduce new issues, for which we’d need yet another costly patch), or simply put the patch back online. They looked into it, and the issue happens so rarely that they still consider the patch to be “good enough”.
It wasn’t an easy decision, but in the end, paying such a large sum of money to jump through so many hoops just doesn’t make any sense. We already owe microsoft a LOT of money for the privilege of being on their platform. People often mistakenly believe that we got paid by Microsoft for being exclusive to their platform. Nothing could be further from the truth. WE pay THEM”
If you’re the CEO of a game development company, and want to ruin your company’s reputation, here’s a handy guide for doing so:
1. Release something that’s a buggy unplayable mess
4. Release a patch that makes things even worse
I didn’t buy Fez because it was shit and I certainly won’t be buying anything else developed by Phil Fish in the future.

I was reading about this this morning and somehow, I knew you’d be ranting about it :P
In all honesty though, this is a total joke. I feel sorry for the people who actually paid money for this, as it’s obvious they really don’t give a shit about their fan following.
And he seems like a total twat.
I actually just browsed the comments section on their website regarding said statement…and people don’t actually seem to mind. WTF?
Fools and their money………..
Phil Fish is one of a few indie devs that a large portion of the casual community revere (see also Notch, Jonathan blow etc). He could shit in a plastic bag and put it on eBay and there’d be a vicious bidding war between these plankton.
But the man’s a complete wanksponge. Anyway – who needs Fez? There’s a certain 8-bit C64-style platformer coming out this weekend… ;-P
Let me get this right about Phil Fish.
He cries on Twitter when gamers threatened to pirate his game.
Gives two fingers to legitimate buyers of his broken, mess of a game blaming Microsoft in the process.
Hmm, If anyone deserves to have their product ripped off by the whole gaming community then it’s this cuntrag.
As Ben on MCV rightly said, Fish sided with the wrong school yard bully with Microsoft and now people who purchased Fez are paying the price.
Anyone who sides with this fool is as big a twat as he is.
I’d just love to know how many people would be willing to buy another game off him, now they know his customer-service attitude is basically “well I’ve got your money, so I don’t give a shit.”
As they say – “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me…”
Phil is such a whining pit of douche… And there’s always controversy going on around everything he does, I’m going to guess that he brings it ‘ALL’ upon himself. Just like the people I know in my day to day life that are the same way. Then they point fingers at everyone else for their problems and whine.
