EA turn Dead Space 3 into generic manshooter because research says “the series is too scary”
on July 20th, 2012 at 5:14 pmYep you read the title right.
EA are turning Dead Space 3 into another dull, unimaginative, brown manshooter because according to EA Games’ marketing boss Laura Miele the games are too scary and that the change of tone is a reaction to “product research.”
“We were doing research coming out of Dead Space 1 and 2 and we’re really proud of those products. We received feedback to understand how we can take the game out to even more consumers,” she stated.
“We were hearing feedback that they love the thriller game, but it was pretty scary, and the obvious next step was that they wanted to play with someone. So we introduced co-op into the game.
“Personally, I would rather go to scary movie with my husband rather than sit at home with the lights out watching one on my own. We’re looking for that to reach out to consumers that perhaps were not open to Dead Space 1 and 2.”
What absolute bollocks.
With Battlefield 4 already announced by EA for PS4 and Xbox720, the next generation is going to be a borefest of epic proportions – which is why I’ve no intention of investing. At all. Ever.

Anyone for tiddlywinks?
Wow.
EA no dumbing down on games. Shame really as I quiet like the series. But I’ll think I will be skipping this from now on.
EA your number 1 for sucking great games into another pile of boring crapness.
I’m going back to one console for the next generation. I’m tired of having them all but playing barely anything.
It’s a Wii U for me and that’ll do.
I don’t play online and I love Nintendo’s first party titles so that’s enough for me.
I’m getting a Wii U at launch, I’m going to stand in the line at midnight outside HMV. God knows what the next lot of consoles will be like, this at least, looks bonkers what with the gamepad tablet thing.
I hate EA. They murder everything I love….
This is so much bullshit. I HATE EA!
Sickening greedy fucks.
EA are now back-peddling claiming they never said no such thing and have re-issued the statement stating that DS3 is “just as scary”. But we all know that shoe-horning a co-op mode in there has “3rd person blast-a-thon” written all over it.
Looks like EA, (after a solid performance through the mid-late noughties with DeadSpace, Mirrors Edge, Alice: Madness Returns, SHIFT and other kinds of good stuff), have slipped back into their old ways.
I totally ignore everything made by EA and anything published by EA, but am I correct in thinking that 99% of EA’s half decent games have all come from unrelated, separate dev studios that EA jumped on just for publishing duties?
Regardless of whether or not EA bought the studio during/after development they’re not actually true EA games.
If you take this view, EA have never made a good game, and never will.
Try to hink of a good game that they’ve developed in-house. I can’t.
Oh hang on, I’ve just remembered one…..Desert Strike on the Mega Drive. TWENTY FUCKING YEARS AGO.
See, I’m a big fan of the Dragon Age series, which I’m sure you know is made by Bioware and published by EA. DA3 is ‘rumoured’ to have multiplayer in it and I wept openly. Why do they see the need to turn everything generic….leave my beloved Bioware alone!
I’ve only just noticed that the man in the middle appears to have an arm as a cock.
