GAME’s flagship store in Oxford street to close on 8th September
on August 22nd, 2012 at 6:31 pmA statement from GAME said:
“We can confirm that we will be closing our Oxford Street store on 8th September 2012 due to the expiration of the lease.
Our West End customers can visit our concession in Hamleys on Regent Street, our flagship store in Westfield Stratford, or our websites at http://www.game.co.uk or http://www.gamestation.co.uk,” a GAME spokesperson wrote.
“We also have stores in Hammersmith, Surrey Quays, and Westfield White City.
“We’re actively looking at other retail options in the West End, and the Oxford Street team have been temporarily relocated to other stores across London and the South East.”
The difference between GAME closing stores left right and centre and British games development studio Psygnosis closing is that no one gives a shit about GAME.

Every time I go past GAME Oxford Street, there’s barely anyone in there.
Less than 10 people, on a Saturday afternoon, at the end of the month, in the shopping centre of London.
When I’m there this weekend, I’ll take a photo
It begins……..
GAME, or whoever pulled what remained of the retailer out of administration, clearly never had any intention of re-vamping the business and giving it a fresh start. It’s been a good few months now and not a single thing has changed in how they do business.
Prices are inflated on all their in store 2for deals; RRP of new releases are still anywhere between £5-10 dearer than everywhere else; staff still try and sell everything but the kitchen sink at till point.
It was this very approach is that help put them in this pickle in the first place.
I’m quite confident in my belief, (one that I’ve held since the retailers troubles back in the early part of the year), that who ever is running the show are now just focusing on squeezing the last few drops out of the company before calling it a day and selling off what ever remains to whom ever may be interested.
