Game to kill off the Gamestation name and operate solely under the Game brand
I predicted this would happen the second Game group bribed officials in order to be allowed to monopolise the UK games retail sector purchased Gamestation.
What do you do if you can’t compete?
You buy out the competition, run them into the ground, sack their loyal staff and turn any remaining stores into Game branches.
The competition ceases to exist and you win.
The only silver lining in this cloud is that Game will hopefully soon cease to exist due to it being a massive, overpriced, stuck in the past, shit-hole that’s run by clueless twats.
As I said on GRcade, rebrand or no GAME are only delaying the inevitable.
The industry is moving forward, how much longer do you think GAME can continue to push the same, tired business model, one that offers little to no value for money when put up against their rivals in the online traders sector and digital market place?
Even now you have companies like EA, (GAME’s bread and butter along with Activision), talking of how they fully intend to go 100% digital in less than ten years. Sure EA might talk about the ‘importance of boxed retail’ because it currently suits their purporse, but once GAME, (or any other bricks and mortar retailer for that matter), usefulness becomes redundant they’ll drop them like a sack of shit.
No? Well, you only have to see how quickly EA turned their backs on the struggling retailer the moment they were looking to completely go under earlier this year.
