Now, I appreciate that this has been a long standing process for Nintendo, but seriously, in this day and age?
With Sony and Microsoft having taken a different stance to region-locking this generation, (who both allow publishers to decide whether they want to lock games to continents, of which in most cases they do not,) I think it’s high time Nintendo stepped up to the mark and dropped this nonsense once and for all.

As annoyed as I am about this, I totally expected it.
The fact that the DSI, 3DS & 3DS XL have all been region locked made the Wii U a certainty.
Sony have the best region locking system in place. In fact, there’s only the Persona beat em up on the PS3 that’s region locked. Everything else is playable on any any machine, as it should be.
Microsoft do employ some sort of region tactic though. It’s not as clear cut as simply allowing the publisher to decide to region lock their games or not.
Cave, for example, have been quite vocal about their 360 game region locking in the past and they always seemed to blame Microsoft for the games having to be locked.
It only seems to be an issue with MS Japan. I heard they have been forcing publishers/developers to region lock over there.
That’s why I was incredibly surprised when it turned out Anarchy Reigns turned out to be region free.
