Ah, Metacritic. It doesn’t really mean anything to any of us lot, but if publishers insist on using it as an accurate measurement of success/failure then Capcom will be pleased with the scores for Resident Evil 6.
Both the Xbox 360 and PS3 version are currently writhing in agony with a user score of 0.4
Well done Capcom.

Capcom really have dropped the ball with RE6.
They’re now even trying to claim that the most successful, multi-million selling franchise didn’t have mass market appeal, hence the changes.

Yup. I saw that news story and posted it as a comment to your Resi piece :)
Ah yeah, missed that.
What I find bizarre is gamers given Resident Evil 6 a break simply because it has Resident Evil in the title.
If you want to play a 3rd person action game then there’s not only plenty to choose form, but most are far, far better than this rubbish. As it’s been rightly pointed out in many reviews, RE6 is a step backward for 3rd person shooters/action games, not an evolution for the genre.
Res Evil 6 is just bad. Especially when a mate of mine who’s is an average gamer can finish this shite on normal mode in one go, without dying.
Just shows you how much this has been dumbed down.
Will this be the last one, I fear not.
Seeing as this one has been the most successful Resi so far, there’s definitely much more to come.
Crapcom will milk the franchise until they’ve killed it completely. It’s already dead to the long-time fans but unfortunately, it’ll take the mainstream gamers a bit longer tire of it.
…And therein lies the problem. Videogame development budgets are now so fucking high that publishers feel that the only way to recoup is by pushing out homogenised, generic pish that panders to the lowest common denominator.
Forget the franchises you love people. They are owned by greedy bastards that only care about their bottom line.
If you want original, quirky titles that hark back to the olden days, you need to look elsewhere, where the budgets and expectations are lower, such as the digital marketplace where the indie devs thrive.
