Lionhead Studios to shut down
Microsoft has announced that UK developer Lionhead Studios is to close.
Also Fable Legends, originally due for release this year for Xbox One and Windows 10, has been canned with the beta ending at 3pm on Wednesday, 13th April 2016
Those who have access to the closed beta can continue playing the game until this time. All those who have bought gold will get a full refund.
“After much consideration we have decided to cease development on Fable Legends, and are in discussions with employees about the proposed closure of Lionhead Studios in the UK,” Microsoft Studios Europe GM Hanno Lemke said.
“Additionally, we will close Press Play Studios in Denmark, and sunset development on Project Knoxville.
Lionhead was founded in 1996 by Peter Molyneux who left the company shortly after the release of Fable: The Journey to form indie developer 22Cans.
It’s true that Lionhead won”t be so much remembered for their output, but more for many of Molyneux’s ideas failing to live up to the designers lofty ambitions. With that said I rather enjoyed the first Fable game. Pity about the sequels.
The very best of luck to all the employees at Lionhead.
